Little Brook, NS – June 5, 2020: The Municipality of Clare proudly supports the nomination of Allister Surette as President and Vice-Chancellor of Université Sainte-Anne for a third term. Mr. Surette, who has held the position since July 2011, will have completed his second five-year term on June 30, 2021.

“As President and Vice-Chancellor of Université Sainte-Anne, Allister Surette has been a highly valued partner of the Municipality of Clare,” states Stéphane Cyr, the Municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer. “Through his meaningful engagement with both the private sector and the community at large, Mr. Surette has exemplified the important role the university can play regarding community economic development.”

During his tenure, Mr. Surette has helped leverage resources for the benefit of the university and of the larger community through collaborations with local businesses, institutions and all levels of government. In recent years, Université Sainte-Anne has also made great inroads in opening its services and resources to local residents, growing the academic institution into an invaluable community hub.

The President and Vice-Chancellor of Université Sainte-Anne has also championed many files of importance for the community of Clare and for the region of Southwest Nova Scotia, including the recent naming of the municipalities of Clare and Argyle as the hosts of the Congrès mondial acadien in 2024.

Mr. Surette is currently Co-Chair of the Association of Colleges and Universities of the Canadian Francophonie, Chair of the Canadian Foundation for Cross-Cultural Dialogue, Chair of the Conseil de développement économique de la Nouvelle-Écosse, Chair of the Association of Atlantic Universities and Chair of the Congrès mondial acadien 2024 Organizing Committee.
