Little Brook, NS – August 5, 2021: To help curtail littering concerns in the community, Council for the Municipality of the District of Clare passed By-law 38, which addresses flyer distribution in Clare.
Key components of the Flyer Distribution By-law include:
- allowing residents the right to refuse flyer delivery to their homes;
- ensuring that flyers are left only in mailboxes, mail slots or doorsteps;
- prohibiting flyer distribution to residential properties where flyers have not been taken in for three consecutive weeks.
Distributors who violate a provision of By-law 38 risk receiving a penalty of $25 to $1000 for individuals or $200 to $10,000 for non-individuals. The by-law does not apply to the distribution of election advertising material, paid newspaper subscriptions, community association newsletters or government-issued information circulars.
