Little Brook, NS: The Municipality of Clare is modifying its Community Recreation Assistance Program to include COVID-19 relief funding for non-profit groups and organizations offering recreational activities and services within the municipality.

At the July 15 Regular Council Meeting, Council for the Municipality of Clare voted unanimously in favour of providing this funding for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, which will be made available to non-profit groups and organizations that have encountered incremental costs brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Each group or organization will be eligible to claim a maximum of $1,000.

“The municipality is aware that important federal and provincial measures introduced to curb the spread of COVID-19 have resulted in unexpected costs for our groups and organizations,” says Ronnie LeBlanc, Warden for the Municipality of Clare. “The goal of this relief funding is to help our non-profits reinstate their services to help the residents of Clare return to some sense of normalcy.”

Funding will be attributed through the existing Community Recreation Assistance Program, which helps residents of the Municipality of Clare offset the costs of participating in recreational programs. In June 2019, the Municipality had already disbursed $9,600 of the total $13,000 budget available for the program. To date in 2020, no funds have been disbursed. According to Réanne Titus, Recreation Manager for the Municipality of Clare, the driving factor behind this year’s lack of take-up in the program is the COVID-19 virus.

“We want to make sure our non-profit groups and organizations receive the help they need to get their activities off the ground as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted,” says Ms. Titus. “It’s important for our residents of all ages to keep their bodies and minds healthy, and non-profits play a significant role in providing these services to our community.”

Non-profit groups and organizations interested in applying for COVID-19 relief funding are asked to contact the Réanne Titus at the Municipality of Clare’s Recreation Services Department at 902-769-2031 or at This email address is being protected from spambots.
